Byron Bay rock trio Headsend have announced their second EP, A Delicate Balance, for November 6, alongside the release of new single Biopsy Of An Unknown Growth and three new Australian headline dates. The five-track EP follows the March release of Angel Glands and comes as Rasmus King, Kyuss King and Bon Soric complete their first overseas touring campaign, which has taken the band through North America, the UK and Europe.

Recorded live in Byron Bay with producer Nick DiDia, A Delicate Balance continues the recording approach established on Angel Glands. The new EP contains five tracks, including Biopsy Of An Unknown Growth, Free and the previously performed live favourite Slayerish.

For Rasmus King, the EP is deliberately open to interpretation.

“A Delicate Balance isn’t a story or about ‘anything’. Just a collection of different feelings,” Rasmus King said. “I like that songs mean different things to people. I don’t wanna ruin that. That’s the best part.”

The release comes at a significant point in Headsend’s development. The trio’s reputation has been established primarily through live performance, with more than a year of increasingly prominent Australian appearances followed by their first sustained international touring activity in 2026.

The accompanying video for Biopsy Of An Unknown Growth documents part of that international transition. It was filmed during the band’s first tour outside Australia, including their North American dates supporting Eagles Of Death Metal and subsequent headline performances in the United States and Canada.

Headsend subsequently moved into the UK and European market, playing their first UK shows and appearing at All Points East in London. Their September 1 headline performance at The Black Heart in London sold out, followed by further dates in Britain, Ireland and mainland Europe, including Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg.

The international run builds on a trajectory that began with Headsend’s Australian touring schedule. Rasmus King, Kyuss King and Bon Soric first gained wider attention through support appearances with acts including Wunderhorse, Tool and AC/DC. Those opportunities placed the three-piece in venues considerably larger than the clubs where they initially developed their audience.

That live experience has also informed Headsend’s recorded work. Angel Glands, released March 27, was recorded live in the studio with DiDia, with the intention of retaining the immediacy of the band’s performance rather than heavily reconstructing the material in the studio.

The debut EP followed earlier singles including Stove and Chugg, establishing the first recorded chapter of a band whose profile had already been built through touring.

With A Delicate Balance, Headsend are now moving beyond that introduction while maintaining the same live recording philosophy. The five-song project gives the band an opportunity to document material developed during a period in which its audience has expanded from Australian club audiences to international festival and support slots.

The timing is also notable within the broader Australian rock landscape. Headsend’s international expansion has been achieved through a combination of domestic touring, high-profile support opportunities and direct engagement with overseas audiences. Their North American dates with Eagles Of Death Metal provided an introduction to markets where the band had not previously toured, while the subsequent headline shows offered a test of whether that exposure could translate into standalone audiences.

The return to Australia will provide the next stage of that process. Headsend have added headline shows at The Old Bar in Melbourne, The Brightside in Brisbane and Oxford Art Factory in Sydney, followed by appearances at Rolling Sets Festival in Queensland and New South Wales.

The Melbourne date is scheduled for October 29, with Brisbane on November 13 and Sydney on November 14. The new EP will be released between the Brisbane and Sydney performances, placing the Australian headline shows directly within the release period.

Headsend’s immediate schedule therefore connects three stages of their development: the international touring cycle, the release of A Delicate Balance and a return to Australian headline venues. The new EP will provide the band’s second recorded snapshot of a group whose growth to date has been driven largely from the stage.
