Jimmy Barnes, Paul Kelly, Nick Cave Receive Australia Day Honours

Rock icons Jimmy Barnes, Paul Kelly and Nick Cave have received the Officer of the Order of Australia honours as part of the 2017 Australia Day list.

Opera singer Anthony Warlow also received the honour and Jimmy’s brother John Swan was given the Medal of the Order of Australia.

For distinguished service to the performing arts as a musician, singer and songwriter, and through support for not-for-profit organisations, particularly to children with a disability.

Mr Paul Maurice KELLY

For distinguished service to the performing arts and to the promotion of the national identity through contributions as a singer, songwriter and musician.

Mr Nicholas Edward CAVE
Brighton, United Kingdom
For distinguished service to the performing arts as a musician, songwriter, author and actor, both nationally and internationally, and as a major contributor to Australian music culture and heritage.

Mr Anthony Thorne WARLOW
Victoria
For significant service to the performing arts through contributions to opera and musical theatre as a singer, actor and entertainer.

Mr John Archibald SWAN
Millswood SA 5034
For service to music as a performer, and to the community through charitable organisations.

Jimmy said in a tweet, “I am humbled to receive an Australia Day honour this year. I just wanted to say thank you to those involved in this decision.”

He also congratulated his brother John on his award. “So proud of my big brother John Swan being given the Australia Day honour. I am proud of him every day!”

Also honoured were television presenter Andrew O’Keefe and newsreader Peter Hitchener.
