John Mayer Praises Katy Perry Super Bowl Performance

John Mayer thinks people don’t feel “comfortable” praising Katy Perry.

The Roar singer was given the honour of performing at the Super Bowl halftime show last weekend, where she put on a set that included dancers dressed as sharks and a huge tiger.

Now Katy’s on/off boyfriend John – who is currently rumoured to be very much ‘on’ with the star – has shown his support of her performance and suggested others might be reluctant to do the same.

‘It was unbelievable. And I think the whole thing about the sharks, everybody wants to talk about the sharks because it’s just something everyone can grab onto because not everyone feels comfortable walking around saying that Katy Perry was amazing,’ he said on The Late Late Show, referring to the sea-life stage gimmick.

‘So they use the sharks as kind of, ‘Guys, love the sharks.’ It’s like, you have nothing bad to say about the performance, do you? ‘No, I don’t.’ Because if they did, you’d hear about it. She made the internet a kind, gentle place for a day. It was awesome.’

One person who isn’t likely to be giving good feedback on Katy’s show is Taylor Swift. The 25-year-old popstar, whos also dated John in the past, is rumoured to have a fraught relationship with 30-year-old Katy. It’s even thought the track Bad Blood from her hit album 1989 is about the brunette songstress.

And Katy seemed to reignite the feud in a recent interview with Elle magazine, where she referred to showbiz as a soap opera and made reference to her supposed nemesis.

“You’ve got to name someone the villain, someone the princess, someone the mom-, the dad-type-you know, there always have to be characters,” she said. “And the media uses that. As pop figures, we’re all characters. Who is the sweetheart, who is the villain? You know. Taylor’s the sweetheart. Kanye’s the villain. That’s the narrative.”
