Johnny Marr To Guest On New Noel Gallagher High Flying Birds Album

Noel Gallagher’s second album with the High Flying Birds will feature an appearance from Johnny Marr.

Marr will play on the album’s final track ‘Ballad of the Mighty I’.

Chasing Yesterday will be released conventionally in the UK on March 2 and March 3 in the U.S., after at least two singles.

The album’s debut single, In the Heat of the Moment, peaked at number 16 in the UK charts after its November release and earned wide acclaim from industry experts. This song, which serves up a classic stadium anthem full of sing-along vocals and sneering guitar riffs, is thought to set the tone for what may well be Gallagher’s most successful solo work to date.

While we know that the first single was a success, what else can we decipher about the upcoming album? Well it certainly more musically diverse than the first, and Gallagher himself seems to have a keen fondness for the finished record. Despite his public contempt for the album title and his music videos to date, he has clearly embraced new influences and seems keen to evolve further beyond his trademark Oasis sound. Whether this will deter loyal fans of Gallagher’s tried and trusted modus operandi has yet to be seen, but it will certainly add another dimension to his back catalogue.

One of the most surprising aspects of the album is the prolific use of saxophones, which influences several songs and even dominates some tracks. Gallagher claimed to have been inspired during a trip to Caesars Casino; a casino which has been in the center of the Las Vegas strip since 1966 and now offers many online options as well, although there’s nothing like hearing the exciting sounds at a casino hall, which create that unique ambiance. Gallagher visited Vegas with Russell Brand and Morrissey and was introduced to one-hit wonder Brian Protheroe and his surreal track Pinball. Laden with psychedelic beats and meandering saxophone notes, the tune is certainly unique and seems to have captured the imagination of a clearly evolving Gallagher.

With the album likely to be a commercial success, 2015 should be a good year for Gallagher and his High Flying Birds project. How long it continues has yet to be seen, however, especially with younger brother Liam having disbanded Beady Eye and fans clamouring for a long-awaited Oasis reunion.
