‘Paris – A Rock Odyssey’, the rock musical created by the late Jon English, will be staged in Melbourne as a tribute to Jon.

‘Paris’, based on the myth of Trojan War, was written by Jon and David Mackay between 1987-1990.

While the album of the show was released in 1990 the first stage production did not happen until 2003 in Sydney.

David Mackay first worked with Jon English on the 1983 English album ‘Some People’.

The original ‘Paris: A Love Story’ album was recorded in London. The ambitious project featured English in the role of Hector, and the cast included John Parr as Paris, Sheila Parker as Helen, Terence Donovan as Priam, Sheryl Parker as Cassandra, Doc Neeson as Achilles, John Waters as Agamemnon, Philip Quast as Patroclus, Joe Fagin as Menelaus, as well as Demis Roussos, David Atkins and Barry Humphries, backed by the London Symphony Orchestra and London Philharmonic Choir.

John WatersJohn Waters will star as Ulysses in this new production with Ben Mingay as Achilles, Kerrie Anne Greenland as Cassandra, Matthew Manahan as Paris and Madeleine Featherby (Helen).

Jon English had been planning to bring back Paris at the time of his death in 2016. MTM Director, Mark Featherby said: “Jon was working on this forthcoming production with us and we spent several meetings making plans.”

“He wanted John Waters in our show and we are so grateful John is playing Ulysses as he was on the original cast album and has such an integral association with Jon and PARIS.”

The Damned released the first ever UK punk single, “New Rose” off album Damned, Damned, Damned, in 1976, and were often overshadowed by their English punk counterparts. Now in their late sixties and still touring world-wide, featuring the original line up of Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Rat Scabies and Paul Gray, they are the ones having the last laugh and have left their old rivals for dead, in certain respects, quite literally!
