On September 7, 1968, Led Zeppelin played their first live show at the Gladsaxe Teen Club in Gladsaxe, a suburb of Copenhagen, Denmark.
Appearing as the Yardbirds with Jimmy Page, the new group had stepped in for the original Yardbirds, of which Page was a member, who had come to an end exactly two months prior after a show in Bedfordshire, England. The band continued to play a number of songs from the Yardbird catalog along with originals that would eventually make it onto Led Zeppelin’s debut album. They played a second show later that night at the Brondby Pop Club.
On September 7, 2013, a plaque will be installed at the Gladsaxe School, the site of the first show. The project that was started by Jorgen Angel who photographed Zeppelin on that first night and continued to shoot the group over the next several years. Funds for the plaque were raised via a campaign that called for help from Led Zeppelin fans around the world.
