Lindsey Buckingham Sues Fleetwood Mac Over Dismissal

Lindsey Buckingham is taking legal action against his former band, Fleetwood Mac after he was fired in April.

Buckingham has initiated legal proceedings citing “breach of fiduciary duty, breach of oral contract, and intentional interference with prospective economic advantage.”

Lindsey said that he had asked the band to delay their current tour until November so that he could promote his solo box set.

In a statement to Rolling Stone, Buckingham said, “I remain deeply surprised and saddened, as this decision ends the beautiful 43-year legacy we built together. Over the last eight months, our many efforts to come to an agreement have unfortunately proved elusive.”

Early this week Buckingham said Stevie Nicks was the one behind his removal but she did not do it to his face. He claims the news was passed on to him by Fleetwood Mac manager Irving Azoff. Buckingham says Irving said Stevie “never wants to be on a stage with you again” and “either you go or she’s gonna go.”

Lindsey thought Irving meant Stevie was leaving the band. Nicks had been cruising in a chauffeur-driven huff for months after accusing Buckingham of “smirking” at her at the MusiCares event in February.

Before they were members of Fleetwood Mac, Buckingham Nicks was a duo. The pair released their one and only album ‘Buckingham Nicks’ in 1973. Lindsay and Stevie meet as students of Meno-Atherton High School in Atherton, California in 1966.

The Fleetwood Mac classic ‘Rhiannon’ was originally a Buckingham Nicks song although they by the time they got around to recording it they were members of Fleetwood Mac.

Buckingham’s love song to Stevie was also on the Buckingham Nicks album titled ‘Stephanie’ (her real name).
