In October, Sydney’s iconic ‘Sando’ was sold Melbourne’s Tim Northeast, Matthew Everett, Richard Ludbrook and Andrew Mansfield, the owners of The Corner Hotel and Northcote Social Club in Melbourne.

Former owner Tony Townsend said he was glad the venue was at least going to a musical family.

The new owners will rename the venue the Newtown Social Club and plan for it to become the sister venue to their Northcote Social Club in Melbourne.

A here are a few words for Noise11.com from Mark Evans on the end of an era at The Sando. “If the Sando lasted one more week, Dave and I would have clocked up 7 years there. It’s a great gig, great feel to it. It’s still feels like an old time pub. Dave and I are taking a short sabbatical. It is very pleasing that there a few offers already but we won’t be re-appearing until late January, time for a holiday!”
