Metallica celebrated their 30th anniversary on the weekend with some shows at the Fillmore in San Francisco and the celebration continues with the release of Beyond Magnetic – a four song EP of songs you probably haven’t heard.

As the title suggests, the songs are from the Death Magnetic sessions. They’re rough mixes that weren’t polished off for this release and had previously only been released to members of the band’s fan club.

The track listing for Beyond Magnetic is:

  1. Hate Train
  2. Just A Bullet Away
  3. Hell and Back
  4. Rebel of Babylon

The band also played four nights at San Francisco’s famed Fillmore Theatre with a whole bunch of guests including original guitarist Dave Mustaine (who was booted from the band very early on and went on to found Megadeth), former bassist Jason Newstead, Marianne Faithfull, Kid Rock, Lou Reed, Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler, Diamond Head, King DiamondGlenn Danzil, Jerry Cantrell, Bob Rock and more.

Just when you thought Metallica’s Lulu signalled the end of anything they did that was cool, hey?
