Wayne’s World star Mike Myers has revealed that Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ almost didn’t make it into his movie.

Myers wanted the Queen classic because he grew up with the song but the studio wanted him to use Guns N’ Roses.

“I had a chance to write and be in a movie ‘Wayne’s World’ and I wanted Bohemian Rhapsody to be the song but the studio said no,” Myers’ tells Stephen Colbert. They wanted Guns N’ Roses but it wasn’t something I grew up with. I really fought hard for that to be the song”.

Myers’ said he threatened to not make the movie if he didn’t get his way. “I’m not every bright sometimes. I went ”I don’t want to be in the movie”. Lorne Michaels said “so let me get this straight, you’ve never been in a movie, you are not likely to be in a movie and now you don’t want to be in a movie”. In the end Lorne said ‘if you are that passionate about it, it can stay’ so it got in.

‘Bohemian Rhapsody has come full-circle for Myers. In the new Queen biopic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ he plays an EMI executive. “I got a call asking do you want to be the in the movie ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’,” he said. “You’ll play the EMI executive who has to tell Queen “you can’t have Bohemian Rhapsody’ on your album”.

In reality, the Myers character never existed. According to Rolling Stone Myers’ character Ray Foster is based on the real person Roy Featherstone but Featherstone never told Queen he didn’t like ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ but he did think it was too long to be a single.

The ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ movie takes a few liberties including replacing parts of the Freddie voice when Rami Malek is singing with Freddie impersonator Marc Martel. Martel confirmed for Noise11.com, “I got to go to Abbey Road for a few weeks and do some recording there. It was the first time for me to see behind the curtain in the music industry. It was really fascinating fun and a very memorable experience”.

“The movie will be using a mixture of Freddie’s tracks and me and Rami. It will all be done in a way you can’t tell,” he added.

Queen ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is in cinemas now.
