Mike Nesmith Plays His Final Show With The Monkees

by Roger Wink, VVN Music on September 20, 2016

Michael Nesmith allegedly said his goodbyes to his former band The Monkees on Friday night at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, taking the stage for the majority of the show, the only time he has done it for this tour.

Mike Nesmith had previously made two appearances with the band, the first, with only one song, via Skype and a second live appearance to play four songs during the group’s encore.

On Friday night, Nesmith took to the stage with Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork and their band and stayed for much of the show, integrating songs on which he sang throughout the proceedings.

While The Monkees does mix up their sets a little from night-to-night, the appearance of Nesmith brought a number of songs not normally in the show including Me & Magdelena, Tapioca Tundra, Sunny Girlfriend, You Just May Be the One and You Told Me.

Nesmith called this appearance “a great way to sign out” adding “I see the specter of the multiple Sinatra retirement/farewells — and this seems like the perfect time for me to step off, sit down and shut up. … What a long strange trip it’s been said TGD — and it looks like I’ve made it to the end.”
