Missy Higgins Covers Oz Classics For New Album

in New Music,News

Missy Higgins has recorded an album of Australian covers for her next album.

‘Oz’ features 15 songs from a broad range of Australian styles and genres. Missy covers songs by classic rock from The Angels, Divinyls and Icehouse, through to Slim Dusty country and songs from Perry Keyes, Don Walker, Paul Kelly, Dan Sultan and Warmup Band.

“I wanted to try something different this time around”, explains Missy. “I couldn’t decide between making a covers album or writing a book so I decided to do both at once. Musically it’s intended to be a real mixed bag of lollies”.

“Obviously part of the reason I called the whole project OZ is that it’s all about Australian songs. Plus, for the first time, I recorded the whole thing in Australia. However the title has a second meaning. I like the idea of songwriters being like the Wizard in “The Wizard of Oz”. Some people think we’re special people who have special powers but really we’re just scared little people hiding in a backroom somewhere, working like crazy to make sure we don’t get found out.”

‘Oz’ will be released in various formats including a clothbound book and CD edition as well as physical and digital formats.

Missy Higgins has released three albums since 2004. All of reached no 1 on the Australian chart.

‘The Sound Of White’, released in 2004 sold over 600,000 copies in Australia (9 times platinum). ‘On A Clear Night’ (2007) sold over 200,000 and ‘The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle’ (2012) was also certified platinum.

In total, Missy Higgins has sold over 1 million albums in Australia over the past 10 years.
