Morrissey Autobiography Will Be Released In UK And Europe

Who knows what the original reason was for the Thursday post on the True to You site, Morrissey’s main career mouthpiece, but there appears to be a bit of scrambling being done over the wording.

On Thursday, the following was posted that made it appear that the singers new Autobiography, which was due out on Monday via Penguin Books, had been cancelled and that Morrissey was searching for a new deal.

Although Morrissey’s Autobiography was set to be available throughout the UK on September 16th, a last-minute content disagreement between Penguin Books and Morrissey has caused the venture to collapse. No review copies were printed, and Morrissey is now in search of a new publisher.

Friday brought a bit of a retraction attempting to clarify the original post which now points to just a delay with Penguin.

The publication of Morrissey’s Autobiography remains with Penguin Books.

This is a deal for the UK and Europe, but Morrissey has no contract with a publisher for the U.S. or any other territory.

As of 13 September, Morrissey and Penguin (UK) remain determined to publish within the next few weeks.
This doesn’t really sound like a “clarification” but the result of ongoing negotiations between the singer and the publisher. That view is also supported by the fact that the book is reportedly delayed from Monday to the “next few weeks” as there may be some content changes.
