Musician Travis Barker didn’t feel he deserved children after living so recklessly.
Barker has documented his eventful life in his new book Can I Say: Living Large, Cheating Death, and Drums, Drums, Drums, covering everything from his personal experiences to his career. One topic which features heavily is his love life and he admits he acted like an a**hole towards many of his former flames. But since becoming a father to son Landon, 12, and daughter Alabama, nine with his ex-wife Shanna Moakler, Travis’ outlook on dating has changed drastically.
“Completely. I mean, even from the time my son was born my life changed,” he explained to Complex. “When I was living so recklessly in the beginning where I just lived day to day, I didn’t really care what happened, and then out of nowhere it was like, boom, my girlfriend at the time’s pregnant, and I’m having a son, and I didn’t even think.
“When I had my son I was like, ‘God, what did I do that you would give me something so amazing, like, I don’t deserve this,’ you know? It was just crazy, and then it changed. I taught my son from a young age to treat girls correctly. Then I had a daughter, and I treat girls how I’d want my daughter to be treated. So much has changed.”
He is happy for his kids to read his tome, leaving a copy of the book at their house. Travis feels they’re old enough to know about his previous lifestyle, having already seen photos of him smoking online and understanding his former irresponsible ways.
The 39-year-old rocker touches upon his former flirtations with the likes of Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and even Kim Kardashian in his memoir. Despite it being a chapter he wishes would go away, Travis has happy to divulge some details of how he treated them.
“The way I dealt with it with Paris, I was not ready for that,” he sighed, noting they met shortly after he and Shanna broke up. “Everywhere we went there was someone documenting something, but it was a time of my life, and I figured out really quickly that it wasn’t for me. It was a little much even though I had fun with Paris.”
He’s also admitted to finding her former assistant, reality star Kim Kardashian, attractive at the time, but he was never disrespectful to Paris.
