Powderfinger reform for Darren Middleton album launch

Watch Powderfinger ‘Not Reform’ And Perform Neil Young Song In Brisbane Saturday

Bernard Fanning, John Collins, Darren Middleton and Ian Haug of Powderfinger performed together on Saturday night but it was “not a reunion folks”.

The four fifths of Powderfinger were back on stage together to help Middleton launch his second solo album ‘Splinters. They performed Neil Young’s ‘Like A Hurricane’ together but Middleton stressed to the audience “This is not a reunion folks. We have discussed this. We’ve had this conversation. This is a bit of fun we used to do a long time ago”.

A Neil Young song was appropriate as Powderfinger took their name from the Neil Young song of the same name from the ‘Rust Never Sleeps’ album on 1978. They were cautious to go with ‘Like A Hurricane’ instead of the more obvious ‘Powderfinger’.

John Collins, owner of The Triffid were the launch took place, let the cat out of the bag on Friday posting on Facebook “that’s 3 out of 5 members of Powderfinger and word on the street is Bernard is back in town. More surprise guests to be announced, don’t miss out”.

The Middleton ‘Splinters’ launch in Brisbane also included guests Mark Wilson (Jet), Marty Brown (Clare Bowditch), Sahara Beck, Karl S. Williams – Musical Fool, Mia Wray Music and Annie Peterson with support from Avaberée and Deena.

Guests on ‘Splinters’ include Missy Higgins, Guy Pearce, Talei Wolfgramm, Sahara Beck, Mia Wray, Marty Brown, Shannon Birchall, The Monash University Choral Society, Lachy Doley, Nick DiDia and Numpark Ranadist.
