Trent Reznor formed NIN as an industrial rock project in 1988 but disbanded the group in 2009 to focus on his own career.

The musician has now confirmed he’s been secretly recording the band’s first LP since 2008 with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder.

‘I’ve been less than honest about what I’ve really been up to lately,’ Trent said in a statement issued to Variety on Tuesday.

‘For the last year I’ve been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly fucking great.’

Trent has had a successful career of his own since NIN parted company.

He collaborated with Hollywood director David Fincher on The Social Network and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo but said he’s ready to get back on the road.

‘This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, HTDA and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place. Here we go!’ he proclaimed.

The new LP will be NIN’s ninth studio album.

The band’s tour is scheduled to kick off in Japan July 26.
