Previously he has topped the charts in Belgium, The Netherlands, Ireland, Sweden and it is currently No.1 in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, plus at No.2 in Denmark and Finland.

He has one more week of touring here in Australia, plus his album “All the Little Lights” jumps up to No.2 this week, so he could be at the summit of both charts next week. “Let Her Go” becomes the 1002nd No.1 single in Australia (1940 to 2013) and the 440th for ARIA (1983 to 2013), plus it’s the first time in almost two years that we’ve had an act from England at the top of our charts, with Adele being the last back in June 2011 with “Someone Like You”, and the last English Male was Taio Cruz with “Dynamite” (30-Aug-2010).

Passenger becomes the 114th English act to hit No.1 in Australia, with the 188th English performed song, and the 38th solo English Male act, plus with Passenger being on an independent label he joins Macklemore as one of the recent indie label acts to top our charts. “Let Her Go” is the tenth song to feature ‘Let’ in the title of a number one song, thirteenth with ‘Go’, and ‘Her’ has only appeared once before in “I Saw Her Standing There” (Feb 64) by The Beatles.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis move back down to No.2 after one week at the top with “Can’t Hold Us”, but the track picks up a Platinum (▲) sales certification too. (AMENDED INFO: Last week I mentioned it was Kylie Minogue in 87/88 that last had their first three singles go to No.1, but I forgot to mention that it had been done since then by Guy Sebastian, who took his first three tracks to the top in 2003/4).

MKTO were in the country recently for a promo visit, and that has helped their track “Thank You” to climb to a new peak of No.3 and to gain a new sales height of now ▲, plus picking up their 3x▲ sales mark are Pink and Nate Ruess at No.4 with “Just Give Me a Reason”, whilst Rihanna does what her song says and is stable at No.5 with “Stay”.

Nelly climbs to a new peak of No.6 with “Hey Porsche”, swapping places with “Impossible” by James Arthur, down a place to No.7 this week. Pitbull and Christina Aguilera are back up one place to No.8 with “Feel This Moment”, whilst scoring a new peak of No.9 are Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding with “I Need Your Love”, pushing Avicii and Nicky Romero down two places to No.10 with “I Could Be the One”.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Justin Timberlake is just outside the Top 10 this week with “Mirrors” up to a new peak of No.11 and also landing a Gold (●) sales certification, with Little Mix climbing two places to a new peak of No.14 with “Change Your Life”, and The Stafford Brothers return to the Top 20 and score a new peak by jumping ten places to No.15 with “Hello”. Taylor Swift returns to her former peak of No.22 with “22” (now ●), with last weeks highest new entry of “Sweet Spot” from Flo Rida and Jennifer Lopez moving up six places to No.25. Havana Brown continues her gradual climb with her “Big Banana”, up one place to a new peak of No.27, whilst “Mountain Sound” for Of Monsters and Men holds at its No.29 peak.

Robert DeLong is up two places to a new peak of No.33 with “Global Concepts” and right behind him and up nine spots to No.34 is Olly Murs with “Army of Two”. Fall Out Boy were here for a promo tour last week, and that has helped their current single “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark” (HP-30) to climb back up six places to No.36, whilst joining the Top 50 for the first time are Carly Rae Jepsen with “Tonight I’m Getting Over You” (83 to 38) and New Zealand’s sixteen year old Ella Yelich-O’Connor who goes by the name Lorde, who sees her “The Love Club” EP leap up forty-seven places to No.39 this week.

Lower down, returning to the Top 100 at No.48 is “Bom Bom” for Sam & The Womp which is now being used in the latest K-Mart ads on TV, and moving up one place to a new peak of No.49 are Bastille with “Pompeii”.

DOWN DOWN: “Lanterns” for Birds of Tokyo falls down six places to No.19, with Bruno Mars dropping six places too to No.23 with “When I Was Your Man” (now 3x▲), and Baauer falls nine places to No.24 with “Harlem Shake”. “Thrift Shop” for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis is down five places to No.28, but notches up an 8th▲ Platinum certification.

Jason Mraz is down four places to No.40 with “I Won’t Give Up” (now ▲), but falling seventeen spots to No.47 is “Suit & Tie” for Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z, but even a bigger drop of eighteen places is “House of Dreams” by Bliss N’ Eso. “Gangnam Style” for PSY is only down two places to No.53 but cracks 10x▲ in sales, and lastly, down five places to No.62 is The Script and “Hall of Fame” (now 5x▲).

NEW – #12 – #ThatPower – Will.ia.m feat Justin Bieber

Will.i.am is set to release his fourth album “#willpower” in mid-April, and the fourth song from the album is the highest new entry of the week, “#ThatPower” featuring the vocals of Justin Bieber. Will is currently charting with “Scream & Shout” (HP-2×6) with Britney Spears, which is at No.30 this week, and this becomes his seventeenth solo chart appearance in Australia, plus Justin’s twenty-fifth chart placement.

Lower 50: Paramore jump up seventeen places to No.52 with their new track “Still into You”, with James Blake moving up six places to a new peak of No.56 with “Retrograde”. “A Thousand Years” for Christina Perri is back up thirty places to No.58 now that the “Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2” is out on DVD. “Sweet Nothing” for Calvin Harris and Florence Welch jumps back up thirty-one places to No.69, with Imagine Dragons second chart entry “Radioactive” climbing up fifteen places to a new peak of No.70. Two tracks return to the Top 100 this week, with Drake returning to a new peak of No.92 with “Started from the Bottle” and back in at No.96 is Flux Pavilion with “Do or Die” (HP-48).

Actress (and now singer) Ariana Grande (Nickelodeon’s ‘Victorious’ and ‘Sam & Cat’) debuts at No.60 with her first ARIA Singles chart entry “The Way”, whilst a TV ad induced entry occurs at No.65 for James Vincent McMorrow and his chilled out version of the Steve Winwood track “Higher Love” (original HP-8, peaked Sept 1986), the song being used in the Blonde beer ads at the moment.

30 Seconds to Mars are set to release their fourth album “Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams” in May, and the first single from the set debuts at No.68 entitled “Up in the Air”. Rudimental land their third ARIA Singles chart entry at No.75 with “Waiting All Night”, Scottish group Chvrches see their first chart entry at No.84 with “Recover”, and debuting No.86 is “The Phoenix” by Fall Out Boy and right below at No.87 are The Script with “If You Could See Me Now”.
