Peter O’Doherty Paints Melbourne For From The Street Exhibition

The paintings of Dog Trumpet’s Peter O’Doherty are being exhibited during August at the Gould Gallery in South Yarra.

The 36 pieces depict various aspects of Melbourne suburbia including the trams, the houses and landmarks like Luna Park.

Peter explained that he paints every time in visits the city.

The ‘From The Street’ exhibition includes works titled ‘Smith Street, Collingwood’, ‘Elsternwick’, ‘Murrumbeena’, ‘Outside Luna Park St Kilda’, ‘Palais Theatre’, ‘Oakleigh Awnings’, ‘From St Kilda Road’, ‘Fitzroy Tram’ and ‘Coming Up Gertrude Street’.

Works range from etching for $300 through to the acrylic on canvas masterpiece ‘Polka Dots’ sized 152×137 cm for $8000.

The free Peter O’Doherty ‘On The Street’ exhibition is at Gould Galleries, 270 Toorak Road, South Yarra until August 30. The gallery is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Dog Trumpet is Peter O’Doherty and his brother Reg Mombassa. The founding members of Mental As Anything formed Dog Trumpet in 1990 and have release six albums. The most recent Dog Trumpet album was ‘Medicated Spirits’ in 2013.

Peter also wrote Mental As Anything’s Top 20 hit ‘Berserk Warriors’.
