James Horner, the composer behind the scores for Titanic, The Lady In Red and Avatar, has died in a plane crash near Santa Barbara, California.

Horner, 61, was piloting the single person aircraft. He was the only person on board the plane.

James Horner won Academy Awards for Best original Dramatic Score for Titanic and Best Original Song for ‘My Heart Will Go On’. He has also won Golden Globe awards, British Academy Film Awards, three Satellite Awards and three Saturn Awards.

Horner is the composer of five of the top 25 American film scores of all-time, ‘Apollo 13’, ‘Braveheart’, ‘Field Of Dreams’, ‘Glory’ and ‘Titanic’.

In 1988 he won Song of the Year at the Grammy Awards for ‘Somewhere Out There’ and in 1999 Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Song Written for a Motion Picture at the Grammy Awards for ‘My Heart Will Go On’.

The death of James Horner was confirmed by his assistant Sylvia Patrycja who posted on Facebook, “We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart and unbelievable talent,” Patrycja wrote on Facebook on Monday. “He died doing what he loved. Thank you for all your support and love and see you down the road.”
