Rewind 80s Under Investigation By Department of Fair Trading

The Department of Fair Trading is now investigating the Rewind 80s festival after the promoter not only switched venue but also switched cities and won’t give refunds less than two weeks out from the event.

Originally, 30000 tickets were expected to be sold over the 2 days of the event. Promoter Shane Sanderson, apparently also a long-range weather forecaster, claims that the venue would be unsafe because bad weather is predicted. Not a prediction 10 days before an event.

Sanderson has pulled the event off Wollongong and placed it indoors in Sydney, downsizing expected ticket sales from 15,000 a day to 5,500.

After a barrage of complaints yesterday on the Rewind 80s Facebook page, the Department of Fair Trading has now acting and will investigate Sanderson’s non-refund policy.

Sanderson claims a refund is not due because the show was not cancelled or postponed even though it is now on in a completely different city.

Punters who purchased tickets and accommodation wrote on Facebook about being over $600 out of pocket now because of the switch.

A number of main acts fell by the wayside during the big switch. The Human League, Kool and the Gang, Sister Sledge and Candi Staton disappeared without explanation from the line-up.
