Samantha also achieves the 100th No.1 debut in Australia since Midnight Oil first did it back on the first week of December 1985 (almost 27 years ago to the week) with their “Species Deceases” EP. List is here of previous No.1 debuts.  .Plus Samantha is the 20th ‘Australian’ reality-singing-show contestant (of this decade) to land a No.1 single, and it’s’ the 28th such track to do so. This time last year Reece Mastin was the winner of X-Factor and since then, he has scored a second No.1 single, plus we’ve added one more Guy Sebastian track, and new names such as Karise Eden and Justice Crew to the No.1 reality singers tally.

Samantha Jade first hit the Australian charts back in February of 2007 with a No.50 (digital chart only) single “Step Up” (from the first film in the dance series), but her first ARIA Top 100 entry was later that year in September when she made No.83 with “Turn Around”, the track returning this week to a new peak of No.53. This year as a part of the X-Factor series, she has charted with “Heartless” (HP-12, TW-29), “Where Have You Been” (HP-51, out this week) and “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill you)” (HP-96, out this week). Her self titled debut album is out on December 7th.

“What You’ve Done to Me” is the 996th No.1 single in Australia (1940 to 2012) and the 434th for ARIA (1983 to 2012). It’s the nineteenth number one for Sony Australia, and Samantha becomes the eighteenth Australian Solo Female singer to hit the top since Olivia Newton-John first did it back in 1971. She is also the 97th Australian act to top the chart and “What You’ve Done to Me” is the 152nd song by a local to hit number one.

If Samantha Jade hadn’t claimed the top spot this week, it would have gone to Seattle rapper Macklemore and Ryan Lewis with “Thrift Shop”, which now only climbs up two places to a new peak of No.2, pushing last weeks number one “Don’t You Worry Child” by Swedish House Mafia down two places to No.3 this week.

Sam & the Womp continue to rise, up two places to a new peak of No.4, and after his performance on X-Factor last week, Guy Sebastian’s new track “Get Along” leaps up twenty-nine places to No.5 to become his eleventh Top 10 hit, and fourth from his current album “Armageddon” (TW-4), the first time ANY of his albums have achieved this feat.

PSY is down four places to No.6 with “Gangnam Style”, and Bruno Mars is down two places to No.7 with “Locked out of Heaven”. Holding their peaks are “I Knew You Were Trouble” by Taylor Swift and “Little Things” for One Direction at No.8 and No.9 respectively, whilst Ke$ha tumbles seven places to No.10 with “Die Young”, peaking last week at No.3.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: After jumping back into the Top 20 last week, “She Wolf (Falling to Pieces)” (HP-11) for David Guetta and Sia is up again five places to No.13, not far from its original peak position from early September. The biggest leap within the Top 100 is the sixty-four place jump by Ludacris featuring Usher and David Guetta with “Rest of My Life”, landing at No.21 this week.

Up one spot to a new peak of No.23 are Mumford & Sons with “I Will Wait”, and right behind them at No.24, up seven places are Icona Pop with “I Love it”. Owl City performed “Good Time” on the X-Factor Grand Final last week, and it jumps back up ten places to No.33, whilst Adele’s “Skyfall” rises back into the Top 40 at No.34 thanks to the Bond film opening around the country on Thursday the 22nd of November.

One Direction return to the Top 50 at No.41 with “Live While you’re Young”, up sixteen places after last weeks fall. The Script jump up twenty-two places to No.43 with “Six Degrees of Separation”, and Conor Maynard and Ne-Yo climb six places to a new peak of No.44 with “Turn Around”.

DOWN DOWN: Rihanna leaves the Top 10 after seven weeks inside with “Diamonds” which peaked at No.6 and is down to No.11, but also dropping from the top ten are Calvin Harris and Florence Welch with “Sweet Nothing”, down seven places to No.14 after five weeks inside the ten, two weeks spent at No.2 where it debuted in mid-October.

Samantha Jade’s version of “Heartless” drops seventeen places to No.29, and last years X-Factor winner Reece Mastin sees his “Rock Star” slip six places to No.35. The Collective leave the Top 100 from last weeks debut of No.47 with their version of “Apologize”, and last years X-Factor contestant Johnny Ruffo drops twenty-five places from No.35 to No.60 this week.

NEW – #39 – A Thousand Years Part 2 – Christina Perri featuring Steve Kazee.

With the final Twilight film “Breaking Dawn Part 2” opening around the planet, the love theme from the final films re-emerges as an even softer version that the original. “A Thousand Years Part 2” features vocals as a duet with Christina Perri and Steve Kazee (Broadway actor who won a Tony Award in 2012 for ‘Once’), which debuts at No.39, whilst the original version by just Christina jumps back up twenty-nine places to land at No.37. The soundtrack to the film this week is sitting at No.16, the film grossed just under thirteen million in Australian in its first weekend (15-18 Nov.).

Coldplay’s tour of Australia landed five older tracks back into the Top 100 last week, this week it’s up to seven songs, and all of last week’s entries rise. “The Scientist” (63 to 45), “Fix You” (82 to 52), “Yellow” (89 to 54), “Viva La Vida” (87 to 62) and “Paradise” (79 to 65) are now joined by “Clocks” (HP-28, March 2003) at No.88 and at No.91 is “Princess of China” with Rihanna (HP-16, July 2012). See the album section for their album jumps too.

AC/DC released their back catalogue on iTunes last week, and like Cold Chisel who did so in August 2011, it helps quite a few tracks to return to the Top 100. “Thunderstruck” (HP-4, peak Nov 1990) is the highest returnee, back in at No.48, followed by “You Shook Me All Night Long” (HP-8, peak Nov 1980) at No.64, “It’s a Long Way to Top” (HP-9, peak Feb 1976) at No.67, “Highway to Hell” (HP-24, peak late Oct 1979) in at No.71. The title track from their 1980 album “Back in Black” charts for the first time at No.80, followed at No.83 by “T.N.T” (HP-19, peak April 1976), and lastly back in at No.98 is “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” (HP-29, peaked late Dec 1976). So that’s seven entries from AC/DC this week, plus they also debut with their new live album “Live at River Plate” at No.11.

Lower 50: Amongst the Coldplay and AC/DC blitz, there are a few other movers this week. Labrinth and Emeli Sande’s “Beneath Your Beautiful” jumps up twenty-four places to a new peak of No.56, and up fourteen spots to a new height of No.59 are The Lumineers with “Ho Hey”, currently Top 10 in the UK and US. Other returning tracks this week come from Flume at No.75 with “Holdin’ On” (HP-49) and at No.99 are The Temper Trap with “Trembling Hands” (HP-38).

Rihanna’s new album “Unapologetic” debuts at No.8 and lands two more tracks into the Top 100 this week. Debuting at No.51 is “Right Now” featuring David Guetta, and her duet with Chris Brown entitled “Nobody’s Business” enters at No.93.

The Bloody Beetroots land their third ARIA Top 100 entry by debuting at No.76 with “Chronicles of a Fallen Love” featuring Greta Svabo Bech on vocals. The group landed two entries in 2009 with “Warp” (HP-51, WI-41 debuted August) and “Awesome” (HP-83, WI-10 debuted Sept).

The Voice 2012 contestant Lakyn (Heperi) debuts at No.82 with the EP “Better Than That”. He was the first contestant this year from the series to score a Top 10 single, when he took his version of “Big Jet Plane” to No.10 in mid May. He charted three more singles during his stint as a contestant on the show, making this his fifth ARIA Singles Chart entry overall.

Dutch trance DJ/producer Tiesto debuts at No.92 with “Hell Yeah!”, his third chart entry on the ARIA’s singles chart, this new track featuring vocals by Showtek. His previous entries were “Dance 4 Life” featuring Maxi Jazz (HP-89, Oct 2006) and then “I Will Be Here” (HP-59, August 2009) with local act Sneaky Sound System on vocals.

The final new entry of the week is New York born, London based singer/songwriter Kristina Train, who debuts at No.96 with “Dark Black”. This track is being used in the promos for season two of ‘Once Upon a Time’ which started back on Australian TV last week. This is the second time this has happened for ‘Once’ as the No.45 song from May 2012 “Rescue Me (How the Story Ends)” by Kerrie Roberts also charted due to being used in promotional ads for the show.
