Sir Ringo Starr and Sir Paul McCartney give Los Angeles a Knight to Remember

Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Ringo Starr were together on stage in Los Angeles on Saturday night giving Beatles fans a Knight to remember at Dodger Stadium.

Sir Paul is on his Freshen Up tour of the USA. Ringo joined him for a Beatles reunion of ‘Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band’ and ‘Helter Skelter’.

Incidentally, neither of these songs was ever performed live by The Beatles. By the time ‘Sgt Pepper’ was released in 1967 The Beatles had stopped touring. The last concert by The Beatles was 29 August 1966 at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. The “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” album was released on 26 May 1967. ‘Helter Skelter’ from ‘The Beatles’ aka The White Album, was released 22 November 1968.

George Harrison once told Noise11.com that had The Beatles not stopped touring they would never have made ‘Sgt Pepper’. “If we’d have kept touring, we might not have gone into the studio to do those kind of intricate works,” George told Noise11.com. “But the last tour we did, I remember trying to do “Paperback Writer”, which had a kind of double-tracked vocal and all that stuff, and it was a bit embarrassing at the time. I remember, “This isn’t making it. This doesn’t sound very good.” So I don’t know, but the Beatle tours were something else. You would have had to have been there to know how ridiculous it was. There was no way we could have continued under those circumstances”.
