Melbourne’s The Smith Street Band have gotten straight to the punch (literally) with a brand new song for Australia’s Prime Minister Tony Abbott titled ‘Wipe That Shit-Eating Grin Off Your Punchable Face’.

The Smith Street Band’s musical political statement is aimed at the Abbott government’s abhorrent treatment of asylum seekers.

On Australia Day, January 26, The Smith Street Band will perform a benefit concert at Melbourne’s The Corner Hotel to raise money for The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, The Refugee Council of Australia and Oxfam.

Helping the band out of the day will be The Bennies, Joelistics, Curse Ov Dialect, Fear Like Us and Stockades.

In the past 5 years the annual Australia Day fundraiser has injected $25000 to charity.

100% of sales from the digital single ‘Wipe That Shit-Eating Grin Off Your Punchable Face’ and the b-side ‘God In the Name of the Father’ will also go to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

The single is available from http://thesmithstreetband.bandcamp.com . Pre-orders for the 7” vinyl will be taken from tomorrow (January 13) for release on January 23.
