The music of Björk will be reinterpreted for the Stonnington Jazz Festival in May.

Nkechi Anele, Mama Alto, Tom Barton, Hannah Cameron, Georgie Darvidis and The Surface Project will perform the music of Björk celebrating the 30 years of the Icelandic electronica artists works.

Björk released her self-titled debut in 1977 but then spent a decade and three albums with Iceland act The Sugarcubes before returning solo in 1993 with ‘Debut’.

Australia was an early adopter of the music of Björk. ‘Debut’ reached no 10 in Australia in 1993. The follow-up ‘Post’ (1995) peaked at no 2 and featured the Top 10 hit ‘Its Oh So Quiet’.

While ‘Its Oh So Quiet’ is Björk’s only Top 10 hit in Australia, she has had three Top 10 albums with ‘Homogenic’ (1997) reaching no 6 and ‘Vespertine’ (2001) reaching no 9.

‘Army of Me’ and ‘Hyperballad’ were also Top 40 hits for Björk in Australia reaching no 35 (1995) and no 31 (1996).

Björk: Interpreted’ is on Thurday 17 May at The Loft, Chapel Off Chapel from 7:30pm as part of Stonnington Jazz.
