The Avalanches will release their fourth studio album, No Bad Memories, on October 16, 2026, alongside new single ‘Can’t Get Over Losing You’ featuring Portraits of Tracy.

The Avalanches have confirmed their fourth studio album, No Bad Memories, for release on October 16, 2026, marking the Melbourne electronic group’s first album since 2020’s We Will Always Love You. The announcement comes with ‘Can’t Get Over Losing You’, a collaboration with Louisiana producer and multi-instrumentalist Portraits of Tracy, and follows three previously released songs from the album featuring Karen O, Jamie xx, Nikki Nair, Jessy Lanza and Prentiss.
No Bad Memories is built around an examination of how commercial culture becomes embedded in personal memory. The Avalanches have drawn on the sounds and imagery associated with advertising, technology, corporate branding and childhood, exploring the relationship between genuine recollection and experiences deliberately designed to remain memorable.
The group describe the album as a reflection on the increasingly blurred relationship between popular culture, consumer products and personal history. Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi have revisited the jingles, sounds and imagery that surrounded them while growing up and transformed fragments of that material into new compositions.
“It’s been interesting as adults to reflect on this often stunning period of marketing,” The Avalanches said, citing the creativity involved in filmmaking, photography and music alongside the commercial ambitions behind it. They described the project as an examination of “the wonder of memory and deep power of nostalgia, especially in sound”.
‘Can’t Get Over Losing You’ extends that concept through a collaboration with Portraits of Tracy, whose production and vocals are central to the track. The song combines garage rock-influenced drums with sampled textures, melodic passages and vocals, continuing the Avalanches’ practice of constructing new music from disparate sonic sources.
Chater has developed a close creative relationship with Portraits of Tracy, praising her production, mixing, voice and songwriting.
“Tracy is an hilarious, brave and tender human being who Tony and I have become very close to over the years we’ve been making music together,” Chater said. “We feel very fortunate to make music together.”
Portraits of Tracy said the collaboration began in 2024, with the song rerecorded and completed in 2025. “Working with The Avalanches was such an awesome experience,” she said. “I don’t find myself collaborating too often with peeps, but as soon as we connected it felt just right.”
The new single follows ‘Together’, featuring Nikki Nair, Jessy Lanza and Prentiss, ‘Every Single Weekend’ with Jamie xx and ‘Blue Shadows’ featuring Karen O. The sequence has established the collaborative scope of No Bad Memories before the full album is released.
The album also continues The Avalanches’ long-standing approach of bringing multiple artists into their records. Since I Left You, Wildflower and We Will Always Love You each incorporated extensive collaborations, with the group using guest performances as part of a broader sample-driven production process.
The Avalanches were formed in Melbourne in 1997 after the members developed from the noise punk group Alarm 115. Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi remain founding members, with Andy Szekeres now completing the current three-piece. Szekeres, formerly associated with Midnight Juggernauts, officially joined the group in 2026.
Their debut album, Since I Left You, was released in 2000 after an extensive recording process that involved thousands of vinyl samples. The record established the group internationally and became a significant reference point for sample-based electronic music. Its intricate construction and use of spoken-word, instrumental and vocal fragments helped define the Avalanches’ distinctive production language.
After a lengthy period between albums, Wildflower was released in 2016 and reached No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. We Will Always Love You followed in 2020, extending the group’s collaborative approach with contributions from artists including Jamie xx, Denzel Curry and Tricky.
The Avalanches subsequently continued working with Jamie xx, appearing on his 2024 album In Waves with ‘All You Children’. Their latest run of releases has again placed collaboration at the centre of their work, with artists from different parts of contemporary music appearing across No Bad Memories.
The group has also returned to an active international performance schedule. They recently performed at Primavera Sound Barcelona and played their first live show in Mexico. A New York performance at Terminal 5 is scheduled for October, followed by headline dates at London’s Roundhouse in November as part of Pitchfork Music Festival. Further DJ appearances are scheduled in France, Italy and Belgium.
For Portraits of Tracy, the collaboration provides another connection between her genre-spanning production and The Avalanches’ sample-based methodology. The Baton Rouge artist emerged in 2023 with the 18-track concept album Drive Home and has since developed a body of work drawing on punk, electronic music and pop culture references.
No Bad Memories will continue The Avalanches’ examination of how recorded sound can preserve, distort and reshape personal history. With four singles now released, the full album is scheduled for October 16, 2026.
