The Stone Roses played the gig for the charity HUGS (Helping Uganda Schools). The fan base was tipped off about the show hours before it was due to start and were sent an email with instructions how to collect a writstband.

Basically, they had to prove they really were Stone Roses fans and turn up with a CD cover, record sleeve or Stone Roses t-shirt to qualify for a ticket.

Liam Gallagher from Oasis turned up and tweeted ‘The Stone Roses are back’.

The show was the first time The Stone Roses have played in decades and used as a warm-up for the shows in Manchester on June 29 and 30 and July 1.

All songs in the set came from the good old days. There was no new music although the band has written four new tracks.

The setlist for the free Stone Roses show in Cheshire was:

‘I Wanna Be Adored’ (from The Stone Roses, 1989)
‘Mersey Paradise’ (b-side, 1989)
‘Sally Cinnamon’ (single, 1989)
‘Made Of Stone’ (from The Stone Roses, 1989)
‘(Song For My) Sugar Spun Sister’ (from The Stone Roses, 1989)
‘Where Angels Play’ (demo, 1989)
‘Shoot You Down’ (from The Stone Roses, 1989)
‘Tightrope’ (from Second Coming, 1994)
‘Waterfall’ (from The Stone Roses, 1989)
‘She Bangs The Drums’ (from The Stone Roses, 1989)
‘Love Spreads’ (from Second Coming, 1994)
