The Stranglers To Return To Australia For 2020 Dates

Australia will once again be treated to punk royalty when The Stranglers return in 2020 for SBM Presents.

The Stranglers connected with Australia from the first album ‘Rattus Norvegicus’ with ‘Peaches’ in 1977. The bass driven song was controversial at the time with its use of the French word ‘clitares’ (meaning bathing suit) which found the band rolled in turmoil from conservatives thinking they were singing ‘clitoris’.

In 1982, hell froze over when The Stranglers scored at Top 10 hit with ‘Golden Brown’. It became their biggest ever hit worldwide, reaching number 2 in the UK.

Founding member Jean-Jacques Burnel drives The Stranglers to this day. It was Burnel’s bass playing that made ‘Peaches’ so unique. Original member Dave Greenfield on keyboards is like the band’s “Ray Manzerek (of The Doors)”.

The Damned + The Hard Ons, Northcote Theatre, Friday 22nd March 2024

The Damned released the first ever UK punk single, “New Rose” off album Damned, Damned, Damned, in 1976, and were often overshadowed by their English punk counterparts. Now in their late sixties and still touring world-wide, featuring the original line up of Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Rat Scabies and Paul Gray, they are the ones having the last laugh and have left their old rivals for dead, in certain respects, quite literally!
