The Voice Winner Alfie Arcuri ‘Cruel’ Ends Week A Terrible Mistake

The Voice Australia winner Alfie Arcuri’s song ‘Cruel’ has been totally ignored by the Australian public.

As the fifth day of sales comes to an end, ‘Cruel’ has slipped to no. 84 on the iTunes chart after failing to go Top 20 even one day after being showcased to a television audience of 1.2 million.

‘Cruel’ was a complete disaster and makes a mockery of a show promoted to be about music.

Based on daily iTunes figures, ‘Cruel’ will be lucky to have sold 1500 copies for this weeks ARIA chart and is unlikely to show up in the ARIA Top 40. That means the song will be written off as a bad mistake. Alfie may soon find out how “cruel” a record label can be.

‘Cruel’ is by far The Voice’s greatest disaster. After Arcuri debuted the song on last Sunday’s show the general consensus was that it was just wrong for Alfie.

It became obvious within 24 hours of release that ‘Cruel’ did not connect with the public. Across Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday it hovered from 37 to 24 to 36 to 48 and today … 84.

The song was only available for sales for four days of the ARIA chart this week so the expectation is that it will not show up in the ARIA Top 40 at all.

The previous winner Ellie Drennan made it to no 25 with her song ‘Ghost’.

The Season three winner Anja Nissen failed to make the ARIA Top 40 but only because of constant delays in getting a song out. Season two winner Harrison Craig reached no 3 with ‘More Than A Dream’ in 2013. Season one winner Karise Eden peaked at no. 5 with ‘You Won’t Let Me’ in 2012.
