Dolby has had the position with the organization since 2001, bringing in such noted artists as Herbie Hancock, Paul Simon and Yo Yo Ma and assembling the eclectic TED house band. TED is an organization that sponsors talks and performances around the world under the moniker “Ideas Worth Spreading.”

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being part of TED’s astronomical growth over the last twelve years,” said Dolby. “But now’s the right time for me to move on. I’d like to thank the whole TED team, my TED house band musicians, and all the great musical guests we’ve brought to the conference over the years. It’s been a wonderful ride.”

“Music has always been part of the fabric of a great TED Conference,” said Chris Anderson, TED Curator. “We will miss Thomas, but the warmth of his musical touch will linger for years to come.”

Dolby will concentrate on his music, something he returned to this year after two decades with his album A Map of the Floating City.
