Watch Courtney Love and Melissa Auf der Maur Reform to Play Hole

Courtney Love and Melissa Auf der Maur played an almost Hole reunion when they reformed for a Tribute to Courtney Love event in New York on Saturday.

An ill Michael Stipe couldn’t be there and instead sent in his tribute via video. Then Auf der Maur and Love together with Tad Kubler on guitar and the Rock Academy Rebels Girls came on stage to end the night with ‘Doll Parts’ and ‘Miss World.”

The show also included Love, Auf der Maur and Faith No More’s Roddy Bottom performing ‘Softer, Softest’.

There were also tributes from John Waters, Marina Abramovic, Rufus Wainwright and Nastasha Lyonne.

The event in Hudson, New York marked 25 years since the ‘Love Through This’ album. While the second album for Hole it was the one where the world took notice. By world, Australia was right up there with the album reached no 13 down under compared to no 52 in the USA. Regardless it went on to sell 1.6 million in the USA.

What is most interesting about the New York tribute is that Auf der Maur didn’t even play on ‘Live Through This’. Shortly after the albums release, Kristen Plaff existed and Melissa joined the band. Auf der Maur’s one and only performance on a Hole album was on 1998’s ‘Celebrity Skin’.

Fun Fact: Love’s husband at the time Kurt Cobain sings on two tracks from ‘Live Through This’ – ‘Asking For It’ and ‘Softer, Softest’.
