America’s Beth Orton, New Zealand’s Tim Finn and Australia’s Matt Corby lead the first artist announcement for Woodford Folk Festival over the New Years holidays.

The Woodford Folk Festival will return for its 28th year in 2013. Woodford is programmed to appeal to a broad, family audience. “We see our festival programme as a catalogue of offerings that might satiate the best audience a festival could hope for” said Festival Director, Bill Hauritz.

Gotye will perform with his band The Basics. “Woodford Folk Festival has a magical atmosphere. Everywhere you turn there is something surprising, interesting or delicious!

The music, art and audience are remarkably diverse and this truly makes for a festival experience like no other,” said Wally De Backer aka Gotye of The Basics.

The artists first named to play Woodfork 2013 are Beth Orton (ENG), The Basics, Clare Bowditch, Matt Corby, Tim Finn (NZ), Half Moon Run (CAN), Julian Marley (JAM/ENG), Busby Marou, Buffalo Tales, Chance Waters, Thelma Plum, Shellie Morris, Blue King Brown, Brendan Maclean, GANGgajang, Jordie Lane, Rose Cousins (CAN), Babylon Circus (FRA), Breabach (SCOT), Rachel Sermanni (SCOT), The Twoks

Woodford is also about culture. Former Prime Minister Bob Hawke will speak. His wife Blanche d’Alpuget will launch her new book. ‘The Young Lion’. Other speakers are Professor Ian Lowe, Dr Stuart Glastonbury, Anna Rose, Simon Sheikh, Denise Scott, Susan Johnson, Benjamin Law, Michelle Law, Melanie Tait, Kevin James Carroll, Robert Pekin, Dr Jessica North, to name just a few this year.

“We aim to give our precious patrons a deeper cultural encounter. We offer the complete experience from great food, comfortable and stimulating surrounds with challenging presentations across a broad spectrum of spoken word, music, craft, dance, comedy and workshops.” said Hauritz.

The Woodford Folk Festival is on from December 27, 2013 until January 1, 2014 on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

Located in between the Brisbane Valley and Queensland’s beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland, the Woodford Folk Festival takes place in a rural valley surrounded by natural bushland with plenty of native wildlife and a superb view of the Glass House Mountains from the hill-top above the festival grounds. The festival is about an hour and a half drive north of Brisbane, or 40 minutes west of Caloundra or an hour south of Noosa.

Woodford Folk Festival is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland as part of a growing calendar of sporting, cultural and regional events throughout the state.
