Black Oak Arkansas Return To The NYC Stage For First Time In 32 Years

Black Oak Arkansas have reunited and will perform in New York for the first time in 32 years this week.

The band that took their name from their hometown of Black Oak, Arkansas formed in 1963 originally as The Knowbody Else. In 1970 they signed with Atlantic Records, renamed themselves Black Oak Arkansas and released their first album in 1971. Their biggest chart success was ‘High On The Hog’ (1973 which reached no. 52 on the Billboard chart.

Black Oak Arkansas finally called it quits in 1980.

On October 18, Little Oak, Arkansas Mayor Mark Stodola paid tribute to the town’s classic band declaring the day Black Oak Arkansas Day.

The band got back together for a string of dates including their recent performance at the Whiskey in LA, their first LA show in 42 years.

Atlantic has also prepared a new record featuring 10 previously unreleased recordings by producer Tom Dowd. The band reformed to record five new songs for the album as well.
