The birth of alternative Australian rock has been documented in ‘ Dirty Jeans: The Rise of Australian Alternative Rock’, the latest heritage compilation from Warner Music.

‘Dirty Jeans’ focuses on the early days of Australia rock from 1988 – 2002 starting with Melbourne’s GOD and featuring Australia’s indie acts like The Meanies, Screamfeeder and Front End Loader.

The album also pays homage to the indie acts that went on to have commercial success like You Am I, Spiderbait, Silverchair, The Living End and Powderfinger.

Warner Music state, “following the switch of JJJ from a Sydney to national broadcaster, and with the advent of the Big Day Out combined with the huge success of Nirvana in the early ‘90s , Australia underwent a musical revolution which saw the creation of a new musical hierarchy; one which lasts to this day”.

‘Dirty Jeans: The Rise of Australian Alternative Rock’ will be released through Warner Music on January 17, 2014.
