John Cooper Clarke To Release His First Anthology

Dr John Cooper Clarke has announced ‘Anthologia’ ‘ the first anthology of his work and a unique 3CD/DVD bookset collection of his anarchic poetry, to be released on Sony 16 October 2015.

Including Evidently Chickentown, I Wanna Be Yours and live performances from the Manchester Ritz and Hulme Playhouse, the collection truly encompasses Cooper Clarke’s wicked humour, originality and his mastery of the spoken word in a career spanning five decades.

The poet, who has recently provided inspiration to artists including The Arctic Monkeys and Plan B, makes his return with this extraordinary collection of his words, anthologised. The 3 CDs encapsulate Cooper Clarke’s expansive archive of poems, performed in his inimitable style. The collection is a combination of original studio recordings with unique backing music produced by Martin Hannett and Invisible Girls, as well as spoken word performances. ‘Anthologia’ also comes complete with a DVD of rare and previously unseen footage dating back to the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1978 through to the more recent Palace Theatre Manchester show from 2014.

Dr John Cooper Clarke puts it best; ‘Some of this stuff was recorded in a bugged room. Surreptitiously even. But not all of it. The more legitimate tracks, however, are worth checking if only for their piss-elegant trash antique value. Why did I go along with this? They said I’d be bigger than Sinatra. Who would argue? With my emphatically adenoidal pitch, who could have guessed I would develop into the high octane hot-shot that you have come to know ‘ that’s perspective for you.’

‘Anthologia’, out on Sony, 16 October 2015, is not to be missed – a one-off collection from Dr John Cooper Clarke.
