The life of Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu is currently in product for release in 2016.

The documentary will be produced by Shannon Swan and directed by Gurrumul’s close friend Paul Williams, in association with Skinnyfish Music. Shannon Swan is Producer and Director of the 2013 feature documentary ‘Lygon Street – Si Parla Italiano’, whilst Paul Williams is producer of Wurray, which premiered at the 2015 Sydney International Film Festival. It will be photographed by award winning cinematographer Katie Milwright.

Katie said, “This documentary is a truly privileged view into Gurrumul’s world, for a performer who can’t see, it’s important to represent what’s important for him in his work in a visual way that feels truthful and uncomplicated. Distilling imagery into something beautiful and concise will be my ultimate goal, being aware of both expansive landscapes or tiny details will be as important as each other”.

The concept of the movie is to explore the boundaries and challenges that exist for such an artist, and his incredible and unlikely journey from his home on Elcho Island in far north-east Arnhem Land, into the public eye.

The movie is targeted to have a cinematic release in 2016.
