New music is struggling to grab a presence on the iTunes album chart in Australia today with a flood of cheap best of’s taking up one-third of the Top 30.

New albums by The Temper Trap, Flume, Drake and Jake Bugg have been pushed down the chart because bargains by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson and Guns N Roses are being snapped up by music fans.

The Temper Trap’s ‘Thick as Thieves’ is bordering on falling out of the Top 20 weighed down with its $18.99 price tag. Punters can buy Red Hot Chili Peppers ‘Greatest Hits’ and Fleetwood Mac ‘Greatest Hits’ for the same price as The Temper Trap album.

Jake Bugg’s ‘On My One’ would be Top 10 if the cheap best off’s weren’t knocking it down the list.

The iTunes Australian Top 30 on Friday 17 June 2017 features:

3. Red Hot Chili Peppers – Greatest Hits ($8.99)
5. Fleetwood Mac – Greatest Hits ($9.99)
6. Michael Jackson – The Essential Michael Jackson ($11.99)
9. Guns N Roses – Greatest Hits ($9.99)
13. Foo Fighters – Greatest Hits ($9.99)
22. 2PAC – Greatest Hits ($12.99)
23. Creedence Clearwater Revival – Best of ($9.99)
26. Phil Collins – Hits ($9.99)
27. Richard Marx – The Collection (16.99) (NB: Touring artist)
28. Billy Joel – Piano Man The Very Best Of ($9.99)
