Elton John The Musical Is In The Works

Sir Elton John’s life is set to become a musical.

The UK hitmaker is already behind two of the world’s biggest stage shows; The Lion King and Billy Elliot. And now it seems it’s not just his writing skills that theatre producers will make a hit production, but his life story too.

A movie version of Elton’s rise to fame is already in production, with Tom Hardy taking on the lead role in Rocketman. And now producer Sally Greene says a stage version is also in the pipeline.

‘It is in the works right now,’ Sally, who runs London theatre The Old Vic told British newspaper The Sun.

‘It will be called Rocketman but we will do the film first. It will open in Broadway before London.

‘It will be Elton’s back catalogue… he will never end his career.’

Elton, real name Reginald Kenneth Dwight, shot to fame in the late 60s and has released albums in every decade since.

Sally adds that the show is being worked on by the creative team behind Billy Elliot, the musical Elton penned songs for based on the hit film, including writer Lee Hall.

Mad Max action hero Tom recently spoke about how he’s struggling to hit the right notes as his turn as the 68-year-old.

‘I’m not a singer. I have no idea really. I’m really trying but it’s hard to open my mouth in that way.

‘I’m not really drawn towards singing and musicals and that stuff,’ he admitted.

A rep for Elton say the project is still some way off, which means they have plenty of time to cast the perfect leading man.
