Gurrumul is readying to perform during the concert for Queen Elizabeth’s 60th Anniversary and dropped in to perform on the BBC’s breakfast show.

His friend Michael Hohnen spoke for Gurrumul on the show, telling his story and explaining how he teamed up with Gary Barlow from Take That on the Diamond Jubilee single ‘Sing’, then the indigenous star performed ‘Bapa’.

Gurrumul said in a statement about his royal invitation:

“I am very happy, and my Aunties and my family are very proud of me representing Australia in the celebration of a long, long time knowing our queen. I have written a chorus “Guywuyarra miyamarrana” in my language meaning – sing loud sing clear sing strong – for the song “Sing”, and I hope she (Her Majesty) likes it. And I also wanted to thank Gary Barlow – he made this song and trip very special.”
