Few would have ever imaged John Lydon could even read a book let alone write one.

John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten) of the Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd. (PiL) will release his autobiography, Anger is an Energy: My Life Uncensored, on October 9 via Simon and Schuster.

A childhood of poverty and illness led to his joining the Sex Pistols as lead singer. Their raucous songs such as Anarchy in the U.K. and God Save the Queen made them one of the most controversial band to ever come out of Britain, so much so that Lydon was discussed in the Houses of Parliament in reference to the Traitors and Treasons Act.

He went on to form Public Image Ltd. with which he still plays, along with releasing a solo album, Psycho’s Path. Lydon also dabbled in acting and as a radio and TV host.

Lydon previously released an autobiography on his years through the breakup of the Sex Pistols, 1993’s Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs. While the original intent was for a second book to cover his time with PiL forward, the press released for Anger is Energy indicates the new book covers his entire life:

Lydon has remained a compelling and dynamic figure – both as a musician, and, thanks to his outspoken, controversial, yet always heartfelt and honest statements, as a cultural commentator. The book will be a fresh and mature look back on a life full of incident from his beginnings as a sickly child of immigrant Irish parents who grew up in post-war London, to his present status as a vibrant, alternative national hero.
