Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds will release their seventeenth studio album, Skeleton Tree, on September 9. It is the followup to 2013’s Push the Sky Away which was their first number 1 album in Australia and the group’s highest charting album in the U.S., going to 29.

The night before the release, Cave’s feature length documentary, One More Time With Feeling, will play in 650 theaters, giving fans their first chance to hear the new music. The film mixes a full performance of the new album along with interviews and “Cave’s intermittent narration and improvised rumination.”

Skeleton Tree was created and recorded during the time when Cave’s teenage son, Arthur, was killed falling from a cliff near Brighton, England in July 2015. According to press information, the album and film are “a testament to an artist trying to find his way through the darkness.”

One More Time With Feeling was directed by Andrew Dominik who previously made The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford on which the score was written by Cave and band member Warren Ellis. The film was originally conceived as a “performance based concept” but evolved to its current form based on the events in Cave’s life. The film was made in black-and-white in both 2D and 3D.
