Tom Petty Gets His Own Radio Show

Tom Petty has been given his own Sirius/XM Radio show.

It’s not unusual for Sirius/XM Satellite Radio to dedicate one of their stations to an artist for a short time right around a major event like a new album or tour, but it’s much more rare for someone to get their very own station. Currently, there are stations dedicated to Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen, Steven Van Zandt (Underground Garage), Pearl Jam, the Grateful Dead, Jimmy Buffett, Ozzy Osbourne, Willie Nelson, B.B. King, Frank Sinatra and Kirk Franklin.

On Friday, add Tom Petty to that list. The artist will take over channel 31 with Tom Petty Radio which he will curate himself with music from throughout his career. Per his site:
Included on Tom Petty Radio will be music from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Tom’s solo career, the Traveling Wilburys and Mudcrutch. The channel will also feature unreleased studio and live recordings, exclusive to SiriusXM subscribers, unique cover versions of Tom’s songs, and rare live performances from Tom’s personal vaults, including the worldwide radio debut of Tom and The Heartbreakers’ August 30, 2014 concert at Fenway Park in Boston.

Tom Petty Radio will also regularly feature archival and new episodes of Tom’s critically-acclaimed weekly SiriusXM show, Tom Petty’s Buried Treasure, now in its 9th season.
Petty will kick the station off, himself, at 6 PM ET Friday with a two hour stint as DJ. Others who will guest DJ include Steve Ferrone and Benmont Tench of the Heartbreakers, Lucinda Williams, Dhani Harrison and Roger McGuinn.

Petty said of the new venture “We are so honored and grateful to SiriusXM for giving our fans access to all of our music, from our biggest hits to very obscure tracks only available through this channel,” said Tom of the announcement. “I intend to be very hands on and supply brand new exclusive tracks as well as rarities from our vaults. Our biggest hope is for a channel that is always entertaining in the way only radio can be.”
