Paul Simon Is Planning For Retirement

For Paul Simon, “Showbiz doesn’t hold any interest for me. None.”

That’s what the iconic singer/songwriter told the New York Times in a recent interview where he added “You’re coming towards the end.”

To be fair, Simon has been in show business now for 61 of his 74 years. He and Art Garfunkel started performing together when Paul was 13, recording under the name Tom and Jerry, and changing to their own names when they signed with Columbia in 1964. The duo broke up in 1970 and Paul went out on a very successful solo career.

Unfortunately, Simon is tired. According to the Times, he sometimes needs 15 hours of sleep and, when touring, a number of days rest to rejuvenate his voice. His current tour ends on Thursday and Friday night in Queens followed by a European series in the fall. Then….who knows.

“It’s an act of courage to let go. I am going to see what happens if I let go. Then I’m going to see, who am I? Or am I just this person that was defined by what I did? And if that’s gone, if you have to make up yourself, who are you?”
