Prince Wins Helpmann Award

Prince has won the Helpmann Award for Best International Contemporary Concert handed out in Sydney on Monday night.

Prince performed his solo ‘Piano & A Microphone’ show in Australia in February just two months before his death at his Paisley Park home.

Prince was nominated in a shortlist with Brian Wilson, Fleetwood Mac and Florence + The Machine.

The winner of the Best Australian Contemporary Concert went to MOFO 2016 for Kate Miller-Heidke and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. Flight Facilities with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Vance Joy and the State of Grace songs of Jeff Buckley were also shortlisted for the category.

Womadelaide won the Best Contemporary Music Festival Award against Laneway, Bluesfest and MONA.

The Helpmann Awards recognise distinguished artistic achievement and excellence in live performance in Australia.
