The stars are currently travelling the world to promote their new musical movie Les Misérables. Although Russell and Hugh play bitter rivals in the film, they are good friends in real life and Russell invited his co-star to see him sing at Joe’s Pub in New York City on Saturday night.

Russell was performing an intimate gig called The Indoor Garden Party with Canadian musician Alan Doyle, when he persuaded Hugh to join him on stage.

According to reports, Russell and Hugh got back into character as Inspector Javert and Jean Valjean respectively to belt out a rendition of The Confrontation ‘ a song from Les Misérables.
Hugh thoroughly enjoyed the performance, even borrowing a black bow tie to complement Russell who was dressed in a tuxedo.

The crowd responded enthusiastically and loudly cheered them on throughout the song.
At the end of the track, Russell and Hugh congratulated each other with a hug.

They then urged the audience to join them in singing some holiday tunes.

Fellow Les Misérables star Samantha Barks was also in attendance and sang with Russell during the evening.

Russell hinted the audience were in for a special treat ahead of his shows at the venue.
“NYC Indoor Garden Party two and three tonight at Joe”s Pub in the Public Theatre on Lafayette, couple of great guests in the back pocket,” Russell wrote on his Twitter account.
