Bette Midler and Blondie To Play Bowie Benefit In NYC

David Bowie was most certainly larger than life which may be why New York’s celebration of his life has had to expand to two separate nights.

The tribute started as a single night event on March 31 at Carnegie Hall but demand for tickets and spots on the performance roster was so strong that the event has been expanded to a second night, on April 1, at Radio City Music Hall.

While a number of artists are playing both shows, there are differences to the lineups. Debbie Harry will be on her own the first night while all of Blondie joins her for night two. Cyndi Lauper will be at Carnegie Hall while Mumford and Sons will only appear at Radio City.

Currently there are 15 artists for March 31 and 14 for April 1 but the Carnegie Hall site says that 20 will be performing so expect additions to the lists.

The house band for the nights will be Holy Holy, a collective that exists to perform the music of David Bowie and includes his producer Tony Visconti (bass), Spiders From Mars drummer Woody Woodmansey, Heaven 17’s Glenn Gregory, The Alarm and The Cult’s James Stevenson and others.
