Jim Davidson, once dubbed “Britain’s funniest man”, has been arrested over the sexual abuse claims involving BBC presenter Jimmy Savile.
Davidson was arrested at Heathrow Airport as he was flying in to participate in the next season of Celebrity Big Brother. Another 53-year old man was also arrested bringing the total number of arrests so far to 10.
84-year old Savile died in 2010 but last year over 300 victims of child abuse have come forward to talk about the crimes that took place over a 40-year period.
The allegations started after a French television documentary claimed that Savile had molested underage girls throughout his high-profile television career.
Savile was the first presenter of Top of the Pops and became a household name in the UK. In 1971 he was awarded the OBE and was knighted in 1990. He died on October 29, 2011 at the age of 84.
One year after his death the child abuse allegations surfaced and police started making arrests. Among those brought in for questioning were 70s pop star Gary Glitter, comedian Freddie Starr and DJ Dave Lee Travis.
A high profile Australian entertainer, now in his 80s, is also being watched but cannot be named.
Jim Davidson OBE had his own show The Jim Davidson Show which ran for five years in the UK.
He also had two UK chart hits, with ‘I Don’t Smoke’ credited to DJ Dee Kline in 1999 and ‘White Christmas’ in 1980.
Davidson has been married five times. His jokes are generally targeted to ethnic minority groups, the gay community and disabled people.
