Singer Songwriter Tex Perkins has thrown his support behind Labor’s Martin Foley in the upcoming Victorian election, consolidating Foley’s chances of a win in the seat of Albert Park.

Perkins entered the Victorian election to raise awareness and drum up support for the restoration of St Kilda’s iconic Palais Theatre and succeeded in getting the support he was after from the Labor Party.

Yesterday Labor pledged funding for the restoration of the deteriorating Palais Theatre thereby eliminating Perkins need to contest the seat.

With just two weeks to go to the Victorian Election, Labor has given Perkins its preferences and Perkins has reciprocated placing Labor’s Martin Foley as the number 2 preference on his card.

The newfound camaraderie between Perkins and Labor is a win for both the St Kilda area and the music industry in Victoria in general.

Labor had already committed $22.2 million in funding to support the contemporary music industry in Victoria and now the City of St Kilda can rest assure that the Palais Theatre will be restored over the next five years.

Victoria will go to the polls on November 29 with the polls showing a wipe-out for the current Liberal Party with Labor at 56% two=party vote to Liberal 44%.
