Iconic Australian singer songwriter Richard Clapton has passed the benchmark 40th anniversary in his career.

Paul Cashmere of sat down to discuss his benchmark anniversary at Melbourne’s equally iconic Bakehouse Studios.

Clapton has generated some of the most potent and important songs in Australian music from his first hit ‘Girls On The Avenue’ through to ‘Deep Water’, ‘Down In The Lucky Country’, ‘I Am An Island’, ‘Glory Road’ and ‘Best Years Of Our Lives’.

Richard has just told his story in his new book ‘Best Years Of Our Lives’ and joins Noise11 in The Library at Bakehouse to share a few stories from the book.

If the walls of Bakehouse Studio could talk you would hear the history of Australian music. The studios are used daily from garage bands through to some of the worlds biggest names including Elvis Costello, Dave Stewart and Ed Sheeran.

Paul Kelly and Neil Finn have used the studio as home base on tour and Australian acts like The Avalanches, The Dirty Three, Chain, Grant McLennan, David McComb, Cosmic Psychos, and Spiderbait were incubated in the building.

The other side of the Bakehouse Doors have seen The Saints, Paul Kelly, Rowland S. Howard, The MC5, Mark Arm (Mudhoney), Evan Dando (Lemonheads), Tool, Janes Addiction, Deftones, Augie March, Little Birdy, The Panics, X, Died Pretty, Steve Kilbey, The Triffids, Beasts of Bourbon, The Scientists, Dallas Crane, Sufjan Stevens, Dave Stewart, John Butler Trio, Jimmy Little, Blackeyed Susans, Vika & Linda Bull, Daddy Cool, Deni Hines, Underground Lovers, Wanda Jackson, Olivia Newton-John, Jessica Mauboy, Tame Impala, Powderfinger, Bill Callahan, Beth Orton, Cat Power, Elvis Costello, The Rockwiz Orchestra, Ladyhawke, Icehouse and Pere Ubu.

The studios were recently renovated with the art rooms. The Richard Clapton was conducted in The Library.
