The ARIA Awards did better than Hot Seat and The Project with Melbourne scoring its best audience with 152,000 viewers.

ARIA re-evaluated the content of the awards this year recognising the importance music education has on the industry by including Music Teacher of the Year in the broadcast.

The Music Teacher of the Year Award was introduced in 2017. The first winner Renee McCarthy, was also from South Australia.
