Brighton singer-songwriter Bess Atwell returns to Australian stages in March 2027 with a new album due in February and a freshly released single written about her time in Quebec.
Bess Atwell is heading back to Australia in March 2027, bringing songs from her forthcoming album due in February alongside the just-released single and video ‘The Act’.
The Brighton-based artist last toured Australia as a headline act in 2025. That run built on the quiet momentum she has gathered since her 2021 album Already, Always and the 2024 release Light Sleeper. The new Australian dates land just after the arrival of the next full-length record, giving local audiences an early chance to hear the material live.
‘The Act’ was written about the period Bess Atwell spent living in Quebec. The track and its accompanying video are available to stream, download and watch now. It sits in the same emotionally direct lane that has defined her work: intimate storytelling delivered with melodic restraint and a clear, crystalline vocal.
Bess Atwell first drew wider attention with Already, Always in 2021. The record established her as a writer capable of turning private observation into something that feels shared. Three years later Light Sleeper expanded that approach. Produced by Aaron Dessner and released through Real Kind Records (the label founded by Lucy Rose), the album added luminous textures while keeping the focus on her voice and the detail of the lyrics. Reviews noted the increased sonic range without any loss of the quiet assurance that marked the earlier work.
Her path into music began with Taylor Swift songs on guitar before a Johnny Flynn concert shifted her focus toward the early 2010s London nu-folk scene. Influences such as Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Joni Mitchell, The National and Sharon Van Etten sit alongside later admiration for Julia Jacklin, Stella Donnelly, Phoebe Bridgers and Soccer Mommy. Those threads appear in the careful economy of her arrangements and the unflinching honesty of the words.
Live, Bess Atwell has steadily moved from smaller rooms to sold-out headline shows across the UK, Europe, Canada and Australia. The songs tend to feel like confidences rather than performances: vulnerable, precise and delivered with an understated power that rewards close listening. The 2027 Australian run continues that pattern, placing her in rooms that have become familiar stops for independent artists who prioritise connection over scale.
The new album remains untitled at this stage, but the February 2027 release window places it just weeks before the Australian dates. That timing suggests the tour will function as both a celebration of the new material and a continuation of the relationship Bess Atwell has been building with Australian audiences since her previous visit.
Her catalogue now stretches from the 2016 debut Hold Your Mind through the 2019 EP Big Blue, Already, Always, the 2022 remix collection Already, Rearranged, Light Sleeper and the 2024 EP More Than Science. Each step has refined the same core strengths: careful melody, emotional clarity and a refusal to overstate. ‘The Act’ continues that trajectory, offering a first glimpse of the writing that will shape the next chapter.
For Australian fans who caught the 2025 shows or who have followed the records from a distance, the March 2027 dates present a clear opportunity to hear the next phase of the work in rooms designed for listening. The combination of a new album, a fresh single and a return to the same cities creates a natural moment of connection between artist and audience.
